#1 FROM DIX 306: 1,000 PEOPLE SIGN PETITION AT ENO FESTIVAL

Thank you for your continued support! If we are successful in preserving these 306 acres of the Dix Campus for a destination park when the Dix Hospital closes in 2008 - it will be because YOU have continued to speak out clearly and passionately to save this land.

Your Dix306 yard signs continue to bring attention and conservation throughout the Triangle and in other parts of the state: Dix306: "It's the Right Thing to Do." At the Eno Festival this weekend we easily gathered more than 1000 signatures to support preserving all 306 acres for a destination park. Folks knew of Dix306 - and that's because of your signs - they are everywhere! At the Eno, conversations and questions were thoughtful and visionary; encouragement and thanks came from everyone and everywhere. Yes everywhere: Austria, France, Canada, Mexico, California, New York ... and of course hundreds from Durham, Hillsborough, Carrboro, Chapel Hill, Pittsboro and Raleigh.

Dix306 continues to work closely with the Friends of Dorothea Dix Park, the Dix Visionaries, the City of Raleigh and other groups toward our common goal of creating a destination park. But special thanks to Mayor Meeker and the City of Raleigh for their offer to purchase, at $50,000/acre, the 306 Dix acres for a destination park. Too much? Too little? Mayor Meeker asked the General Assembly to let us know. But for the record, our N.C. state government paid $24,000 an acre for Chimney Rock park land and $28,000 an acre for Bird Island park sanctuary - that's beach front and sound front property. We commend the legislature for acquiring these park lands for future generations of N.C. Now is the time for our Legislature to accept a 'fair price for park land' in our Capital City!

DIX 306 has recently updated its website (dix306.org). We have had a lot of elected officials publicly endorse the '306' acre park (highlighted on the site in GREEN) so please go to our site and thank them!  Also we now have a clear call to action and methods for contacting our elected officials so all can help to create a world-class destination park. Please visit the website and drop us an email info@dix306.org.

Thanks again for all you are doing to help preserve all 306 acres for future generations.

#2 THANK YOU TO ELECTED OFFICIALS

FDDP would like to acknowledge and congratulate Mayor Meeker, as well as the Raleigh City Council, for their public support of a world-class destination park on the Dix Campus!  We would also like to thank our former city council members and current state Senators Janet Cowell and Neal Hunt for their non-partisan public support.

We are looking forward to the General Assembly and Governor's office joining in negotiations with the city of Raleigh to create something our state capital can be proud of for generations to come.

#3 PLEASE CONTINUE TO SUPPORT THE PARK FUNDRAISER

The Fundraiser to Save the Park was a huge success, bringing in nearly $20,000!  However, it is not too late to contribute to the creation of a 306-acre, world-class destination park.

The money raised through the fundraising efforts will be used to continue our public advocacy campaign to educate the people of North Carolina about the benefits of creating a 306-acre, world-class destination park.

If you have pledged money already - please send in your check immediately to FDDP, P.O. Box 12024, Raleigh, NC 27605.

We still have outstanding pledges and are welcoming new contributions - your support is desperately needed!  The time to contribute is now.  Thank you!
