Newsletter
July 30, 2007
Hello Friends,
Welcome to the latest edition of our weekly newsletter. Please pass along to your friends and family and ask them to become involved! Our goal is to keep all our members up-to-date on the recent developments related to Dix Park. #1 GENERAL ASSEMBLY UPDATE #2 DIX VISIONARIES, DIX 306, FDDP WORKING TOGETHER #3 FDDP 2007/2008 BOARD ELECTED #4 DIX IN THE PUBLIC EYE #5 STILL TIME TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE FUNDRAISER ================================== #1 GENERAL ASSEMBLY UPDATE The General Assembly is showing signs of movement as they edge closer to agreeing on the N.C. Budget. This is further indication that a bill regarding the use of land on Dix Campus may be coming soon! We hold hope that our General Assembly may give us our 306-acre Dix Park in the final hours of this session. However, we should be ready to act immediately if we do not get the 306-acre Dix Park bill we have asked for. As citizens of North Carolina, the property is OURS. From our recent poll, over 65% of the voting public statewide wants a 306-acre Dix Park. Please pay close attention to the actions of the General Assembly in the next week. If a bill is released with anything less than 306 acres for Dix Park – we should be ready to take action! All three advocacy groups remain dedicated to a 306-acre Central Park in Raleigh – Dix Park for all North Carolina! =================================== #2 DIX VISIONARIES, DIX 306, FDDP WORKING TOGETHER The Dix Visionaries Board Meeting was held on July 26th and included representatives from both the Dix 306 and Friends of Dorothea Dix Park advocacy groups. All three Dix Park advocacy groups are working toward the same goal of creating a 306-acre, world-class destination park on the Dix Campus. This is a great sign of collaboration between the three groups. Working together is a positive step that ultimately pushes us closer to our shared goal. =================================== #3 FDDP 2007/2008 BOARD ELECTED Elections were recently held and positions were filled for the 2007/2008 Friends of Dorothea Dix Park Board. We want to congratulate those elected and thank them for their continued support of a 306-acre, world-class destination park!
President:
=================================== #4 DIX IN THE PUBLIC EYE All three Dix Park advocacy groups have been active in the surrounding communities in recent weeks, promoting and educating the public about the benefits of a 306-acre destination park on the Dix Campus. Bill Padgett, president of the Dix 306 Board, presented to about 40 attendees at the North Hills Rotary Club. Bill told the group that all three advocacy groups share the same vision for a 306-acre Dix Park. Dix 306 members canvassed the crowd at Raleigh Wide Open this past weekend. They handed out Dix 306 stickers and gathered even more petition signatures. We want to thank all those participating in their communities to encourage greater numbers to join the Dix Park advocacy movement! =================================== #5 STILL TIME TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE FUNDRAISER If you weren’t able to attend the Fundraiser to Save the Park last month – it’s not too late to contribute to the creation of a 306-acre, world-class destination park! We are planning additional fundraiser gatherings throughout 2007 and 2008. The money raised through the fundraising efforts will be used to continue our public advocacy campaign to educate the people of North Carolina about the benefits of creating a 306-acre, world-class destination park. Please let us know if you would like to work with us to sponsor our next event. If you have pledged money already – please send in your check immediately to FDDP, P.O. Box 12024, Raleigh, NC 27605. We still have outstanding pledges and are welcoming new contributions – your support is desperately needed! The time to contribute is now. Thank you! =================================== Thank you for your continued support!
