#1 GENERAL ASSEMBLY ADJOURNS – TAKES NO ACTION ON DIX PARK

By taking no action, the General Assembly is allowing more time for the Dix Park decision to be made fairly and with adequate planning and community input. This is a positive outcome for everyone that supports and has been working for the creation of a 306-acre Destination Park. This session of the General Assembly has ended.  As no action occurred, the bill extending the General Assembly’s control of the property will expire this month.  The decision now rests in the hands of the Council of State.  We will report on how this works in our next newsletter.

The FDDP Board will define an aggressive strategy for the upcoming months.  Watch for news and events!

In the mean time, continue to show your support by keeping those Dix306 signs visible!  If you need more signs for your friends and family, please visit http://dix306.org.

#2 MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

Although we did not get our 306-acre Dix Park this session, we are pleased the General Assembly did not act rashly.  We look forward to continuing our work with all the stakeholders to create a 306-acre, world-class destination park that all North Carolinians will be proud to visit.

Thanks to all of you, we have great momentum to push forward in the coming year.  We will continue building on this momentum and won’t stop working until we have a ‘Central Park’ for North Carolina!

Jay Spain
President of Friends of Dorothea Dix Park Board

#3 NEW POLL RELEASED – CITIZENS WANT PARK!

Public Policy Polling released a poll on July 30 that 58% of those polled in Wake County not only want a 306-acre, world-class destination park for North Carolina, but they would even support an $80 million dollar bond to purchase these 306 acres.

Please check out the full poll results at:
